The THESS project is a Leonardo Da Vinci Transfer of innovation focused on the hotel and tourism sector of vocational education and training. It involves partners in Slovenia, Netherlands, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Poland. Ian Lynch is a subcontractor to both this and the HandsonICT project and quickly identified the possibility for synergy between the projects. He presented the MOOC concept of the HandsonICT project to the THESS project partners at a recent project meeting in Istanbul.
The THESS partners are developing new VET qualifications to a specification referenced to the European Qualifications Framework and providing credit transfer compatible with ECVET principles. The management of evidence from both formal and non-formal learning can be supported using open source based cloud technologies developed in the earlier INGOT and SAFE projects. on-line progress tracking and reporting is fully supported. However there is a need for support for courses underpinning the learning process and the HandsonICT MOOC is designed for this purpose.
